I try to give my business to local family businesses as often as possible, and I am SO glad I went with Swede! We just bought our house and have never had a fireplace before, so we lacked a lot of basic knowledge on how to care for one. I was doing my due diligence, calling around and asking for quotes and information from a few different places, but many were quoting me quite a bit of money and were trying to upsell me into services I honestly did not know if I needed or not.
Terri was kind when she answered my questions and gave me some really great advice on how to find trustworthy chimney cleaning services (and how to know if I do or no not need extra services others were telling me I needed). Rick and Kyle came out to service my chimney and were SO incredibly kind, respectful, and patient with all my questions. I truly felt like they cared for our wellbeing by double checking for any leaking gas, checking our dryer vents, and inspecting the chimney from top to bottom (apparently not many places will do that, even though you’d think it was necessary?)

I have always used Swede for my chimney inspection/sweeps in the past. I scheduled an inspection in August to take advantage of their summer discount. As always, they were professional, friendly and efficient. They were running early and called to see if it was OK to come early. Kyle arrived and described what he would be doing, visually inspected the fireplace. He said it was mildly dirty then climbed on the roof to check from above. He confirmed that it was moderately dirty but recommended that he sweep it. I agreed. I never know what the weather will be like for the winter and how many fires we will have. Kyle laid out a number of fabric tarps to protect the floor and furniture, thoroughly cleaned the fireplace & chimney, then cleaned up around the fireplace afterwards. Kyle did an excellent job, I highly recommend Swede Chimney Sweep.

So it’s never a great experience when you try to start a romantic fire in the fireplace and wind up filling your living room up with smoke. Once I got past that issue and took stock, I solicited several bids to inspect the problem. Swede wasn’t the cheapest, but they were far from the priciest and they had an absolutely stellar reputation. They more than lived up to it: patiently answering questions, advising on next steps, providing a detailed invoice complete with pictures and recommendations, etc. They even declined to charge me for a full cleaning since the problem was largely superficial and easily dealt with (for them at least, I am not a chimney expert). I was so impressed with their initial work that I’m having them back to fix some less-urgent issues they found with the chimney cap. Long story short, if you’re having chimney issues, just give them a call.

When I called to inquire about installing a chimney cap, Terri explained everything and was very clear about every possible outcome, including ranges of costs and situations where the team might not be able to install the cap (including solar panel placement, roof slope, and roof condition). Terri spent a lot of time on the phone with me explaining the pros and cons of gas logs and what I needed to consider before installing them and answering several questions I had. She was so helpful. We rarely use our gas fireplace but did so this winter and there was an odor and soot coming from it so I looked at reviews and called Swede Chimney Sweep. When I called, Terri asked me several questions and gave me possible reasons – it was so helpful to learn from her. We recently moved into an older home built in the 1960’s and inquired about getting our chimney throat damper repaired or replaced with a top damper as it was in the stuck open position and there was a draft flowing through the chimney and into the home.
We knew nothing about chimneys and thought this was going to be a simple and easy job. However, Terri from Swede Chimney Sweep was extremely patient and explained that since we had a gas log lit fireplace, we could not have a damper installed, and if we got one installed, it needed to be perpetually open due to code and to avoid carbon monoxide asphyxiation (wasting all the money spent on a top damper in the first place!). Instead, fireplace doors could be a solution to our issue.
Furthermore, since we had cracked flue tiles (which I did not think were issues due to my lack of knowledge) the chimney is inoperable because of risk of hot gasses escaping from the chimney into the structure, increasing the probability of a fire. The chimney must first be evaluated and repaired by a chimney mason. She advised us against using the fireplace until it is repaired.
Terri’s knowledge and advice guided me to the conclusion that this project was going to be a lot more expensive than I thought, and prevented a naive homeowner from burning their own house down. I appreciate the time and effort she took to educate me on the intricacies of chimneys. Once I get my chimney evaluated and repaired, Swede Chimney Sweep will definitely be the first I’ll call for any chimney service I need!

What a brilliant family owned business, care they take and patience in explaining the process, answering any questions, being very flexible interms of accomodating our requests. Its simply fantastic. Through professionals and very nice, warm and friendly crew. We were about to move into a new property, had questions about chimney sweep related to new flooring installed. Terri took time to ask me questions, what i exactly wanted to do and guided me perfectly even without booking an appointment for chimney sweep. After a month or so when i completed all the flooring, i didnt think twice about reaching out to Terri and request a chimney sweep. While the chimney did not need to be swept, they did uncover a structural issue with the chimney’s condition, which is not surprising given the age of the house. Swede chimney sweep is an excellent choice for our needs.
We’ve had our house for nearly a decade and had not thought to use the fireplace until recently. Terri asked just the right questions and gave just the right amount of info to understand the process. Set up the appointment (sweeping and inspection included in one quoted price). The cleaning was thorough with no residual dust to clean up. The inspection uncovered several critical issues and they provided a thorough debrief, as well as a recommendation for who can help us address the issues.

A friend had recommended Swede Chimmy Sweep to check out the chimney and dryer vent. Terri who sets up the appiontments is very responsive. They came out a few weeks ago and I would recommend them to anyone who needs a chimmy or a dryer vent cleaned out. Rick checked out the chimmy and gave us an overall assessment. Kyle cleaned out the dryer vent and now the dryer is working better than before. Kyle even tighten up a small leak we had. What an amazing job. First time out was installation of gas insert and advise on what not to burn in there without a fire hazard. 2nd time out to clean chimmney and install a new dryer hose that was code compliant. This is a very good and responsible family business. Terri is one of very few certified specialists in her field. After my smaller fireplace was inspected which included an examination by Rick from the top of the chimney (roof) and swept by Kyle, I went ahead and bought the artificial log/gas kit which comes with everything. I painted the fireplace black with a high heat spray and Kyle installed it in less than an hour. My fireplace went from dirty unknown to a beautiful amenity that people can enjoy for years safely! Terri is one of the most knowledgeable people in this line of business I have met.

Team Swede came on out to my home on-time (Even a little early!), explained what the process was, laid out dropcloths, put on shoe coverings and did their thing. They were quick, clean, thorough and took pictures of the issues with my chimney. This made it easy to get an explanation of what repairs were needed (And by someone else, not them. They’re not chimney masons, which was cool because I knew they weren’t trying to invent work for the sake of work!) Rick inspected the chimney and let us know the assessment. Then they laid down floor covering and brought in their tools to clean. Lastly, Rick checked our chimney gas valve for leaks and re-chalked the capped line.

Also, before he put the cap on our chimney he told me we need some masonry work done & they can put the cap on when they do the work. Another service before, came and said it’d be thousands of dollars to have an operating chimney, so our contractor called Swede. They came, looked, reattached a vent (detached by exterminator) and found it to be in perfect operating condition. We’re just waiting for a cold day to use it!

I just found the most amazingly HONEST dryer vent cleaning company!
I called Swede Chimney Sweep and Dryer Vent Cleaning swedesweep.com/I talked to the lady on the phone, and she asked me some questions, and after she got my answers, she explained that I didn’t need my dryer vent cleaned. She saved me all the $$$s I would have been stupid enough to spend if I had called someone else. She was patient enough to tell me that the way my dryer was connected (the flexible hose going directly to the outside of the garage) I didn’t even have a dryer vent, therefore it didn’t need cleaning. To explain my confusion, I’d never seen a “dryer vent”. I thought every house had one, and I’d always heard it was something to get cleaned to prevent fires. 5 stars

These guys were amazing from start to finish! From being very informative when I made the appointment over the phone, to the professionalism of the guys when they came to inspect and repair our chimney. They were very knowledgeable, and even came back the same day due to a mistake on our end – one of our family members tried out the newly installed chain for the damper and was a bit rough w it. We were concerned it messed with the seal of the damper, so Rick came back a couple hours later to make sure his install was still in place.

Even though they came over to inspect our fireplace, the end result was that our fireplace didn’t require cleaning and they made a suggestion to install a fireplace guard to lower the height of the fireplace opening to help with the smoking problem. They left and said they weren’t going to charge us, which caught me by surprise. I wanted to give them a tip for at least taking the time to visit our property but they left quickly and I didn’t get a chance to. On top of that, they provided an email confirmation prior to the appointment that was very thorough and informative.
Even though we didn’t pay for a service, they deserve this 5-star review for being so great to work with.

Terri called back the next day and explain that because it was the busy season and no appointment were available till January. If you’re heating your house, like we are, with an old (or even a fairly new) fireplace, you need to have that system (firebox, chimney, flue, and chimney cap) cleaned and inspected at least every two years. Swede Chimney Sweep is an excellent choice for that work. They are a small totally-family business that has been “in the trade” for many years, and we have used their services for many years as well.
Early this month (March) while we were watching a television show and enjoying a nice fire, the house began rapidly filling with smoke. We quenched the fire (in the fireplace) and the next day I called Swede. Terri Pocock walked me through the possible causes over the phone. We decided that the likely problem was a clogged spark arrester on the roof. So we made an appointment and Rick and Kyle Pocock came out, cleaned the arrester and cleaned the rest of the system. Fast, clean (they cover everything with tarps), and careful of everything in the house. We’re back to enjoying our nightly fires.

After all the efforts my husband made to clean out the dryer vent that runs under our kitchen it was still clogged taking 3 hours to dry towels. We called Swede and were so grateful they were able to clear the clog and now our towels take 30 minutes and laundry is not the negative it had become. This is the first time I’ve written a review for a company that I didn’t hire. I called to hire them, and Terri spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, asking me questions and educating me on fireplaces in older houses.
What I need is not a chimney cleaning but work done by a chimney mason, which Swede doesn’t do. Still, Terri took a lot of time with me, when she easily could have said “You don’t need our service, thanks very much”. I have a fireplace that was built in 1953 and I have had it cleaned many times over the last 26 years I have lived here and no one did the type of complete job they do. The fireplace has so many cracks especially the 4 flues inside that a fire could have gone to my house structure. I would have to have a certified fire tech and chimney repair mason fix this. I’ve owned my home 10 years and over the last 4-5 years or so we’ve really started using our fireplace to burn hardwood. This last storm got us some downdraft of smoke into the house which got me looking for a chimney sweep real quick. I did what you guys are all doing (I’ve never called one or really knew much about this so Yelp to the rescue!) and came across Swede. This small family-owned business has an overwhelming number of very positive, glowing reviews and from what I experienced from my first service with them, I could definitely see why!
I sent an email asking for some information about this and got a response right away. In that email I got a procedure of what I could expect, the prices up front in very clear and friendly language with a wide range of appointment times. Rick and Kyle (father-son-team) came out, were very friendly, very professional, and educational about my chimney-firebox issues. They carry the necessary parts for the fixes they recommended to me on their service vehicle so it makes other service requests quick and easy. I never got the sense that I was getting upsold. I did add on the chimney cap (wish I had put one in years ago) and am going to have the heat shield installed another time (I should have just gotten it taken care of at the time they were there); it didn’t occur to me until after they left.

It’s so hard to get good people/businesses to come and help you with things you rarely understand (i.e. mechanic, handyman, IT) that when you do you just want to tell everyone. They come and clean, recommend improvements and where things can be purchased (fireplace items are considered seasonal), as well as giving suggestions for heat disbursement improvements. We constantly use our fireplace and have had annual inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.

I am not one to write a lot of reviews. But Rick and Terri are amazing. I initially used them in 2012 when I was purchasing my home. They informed me that my chimney was too short and having a opening on both sides could be an issue with smoking. They were right. I just had them out to my place because of water seepage coming down my chimney. Rick and his son showed up and inspected the chimney. I thought I would have had some serious repair work, but no, they said that water seeping in is hard to determine where the weak was coming in from. Since the flashing was just done, there were no real issue other than get some sealant and apply around the chimney. No attempt to up sell or provide a service which was not needed. Refreshing. They are professionals who are prompt, responsive to questions, and very empathetic to my issue. I cannot say enough and recommend them without reservation.

I was very impressed with Swede Chimney Sweeps, to begin, Terri gave me a full explanation not only what to expect from their sweeping the chimney, but also safety tips. From her tips I decided on putting in gas logs and they did the installation. They not only swept the chimney that needed it, he found a gas pipe that was in disrepair and changed it out. I had new tenants moving in who wanted a fire the night of their move in and I was very proud to have been able to provide that for them due to this very professional company. Terri answered the phone and took time to explain the process of the inspection as well as possible issues since my home is older. We recently purchased a home and wanted to have the two fireplaces inspected and swept. They quoted us a fair price and were able to come out within a couple of days. They found that one fireplace was unsafe to use due to rust and that the other one was just fine. They said neither needed to be swept and have us some extra “above and beyond” info and recommendations.

I haven’t had the pleasure of using Swede Chimney Sweep, but their customer service is beyond exceptional. I called them about a month ago to find out if they could install a lintel in our fireplace, since it was noted during our home inspection that this very important structural beam was missing. Terry let me know that they don’t do installs and they wouldn’t be able to sweep our chimney unless it had the lintel. She referred me to one of the two companies that do this kind of work in San Diego. She really didn’t have to help me, but she did, and I’m greatly appreciative for her for leading me in the right direction. I called again after the lintel was installed to see if I could schedule a chimney sweep and she was honest in telling me they were booked through mid December, and again referred me to another company that should be able to take on the work sooner. She also answered questions that I had about chimney maintenance. I rarely have the pleasure of speaking with someone so genuine, knowledgeable and honest. We will definitely plan ahead for any of our chimney needs and be using Swede in the future.

They gave me some bad news, my chimney needs some serious repair. This was after unfortunately determining they did need to do a sweep. This is likely due to them inspecting it further AFTER the sweep, which is understandable. They followed up with a recommendation on getting it fixed, an explanation of what’s going on, and pictures demonstrating the issue. I’d have liked to understand the different options moving forward, but they’re there to sweep and do minor repairs not serious masonry.
They showed up on time for a sweep and minor repair. They seemed like good dudes. They didn’t charge me for getting up on my roof to inspect the chimney which may not have been required had they JUST been there for a sweep (not sure).
All in all I’m happy I went with them. I believe they had my best interests in mind. I’d use their services again. Had I just started my fireplace up without first having them out I could have caused some serious damage. Had I called someone else I’m not so sure they’d have taken pictures from inside my chimney and found the serious issues with it.

Over the years, the chimney in our 50+ year old chimney flue had developed a glaze that regular maintenance cannot remove. This glaze was a potential fire hazard. Initially I contacted Swede Chimney Sweep to see if they would be available for a new home chimney inspection during closing period. Because it was a last-minute request, I was unable to schedule with Swede. But, during my conversation with Terri, she not only could tell from satellite images that, indeed, my chimney did not have a cap, but provided valuable information on what to look for in a chimney sweep (even though I wasn’t going to be using them for the inspection). Upon closing, I immediately scheduled with Terri an appointment to have my dryer vent cleaned (which didn’t look like it was done in forever) and then they leak tested the gas valve, installed a damper clamp, removed the old gas logs, installed a log lighter, and patched a gap between the top flue tiles. This business is outstanding. The owner, Rick, and his son, Kyle, came to my home today to clean my dryer vent. They were on time and professional. During the cleaning, the vent duct fell apart on them, through no fault of their own. They spent about 45 minutes trying to fix it and when it wasn’t happening, they went to the hardware store, bought the parts, came back, and fixed it like new. When I asked how much extra I owed at the end, fully expecting to pay for the extra labor and parts, Rick told me nothing! He told me it happened on their watch while they were working so they made it right.
I asked Rick how often I needed to get the vent cleaned. He responded once every three to four years with the current amount of people in my household. Rick seemed like an honest, hardworking guy and I was impressed he didn’t try to tell me I needed to have his service done once or twice a year, or some other estimate to gain more business.
I am incredibly impressed with their customer service, attention to detail, and the quality of their work. I will absolutely refer this company to my family, friends, coworkers, etc. I wish I could give them a million stars. He determined that he could not fix it because it was outside of his scope of practice and it was not an issue that was related to my fireplace. I called the office on July 3rd, a very friendly lady answered the phone. Made an appointment for July 5th at 10AM to clean our chimney. Promptly at 10 am Rick Pocock (owner), showed up at our door. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy. Inspected the fireplace, said it looked pretty clean, but a few cracks needed caulking, it was included in the inspection. He climbed on the roof, to inspect the chimney, said it was clean. He cleaned the spark arrestor and replaced it again. Very friendly and professional. Good to know a family owned business; They cared. Very reasonable inspection fee too. I will definitely call them again. 🙂

The service that we received was great! They were on time, friendly, professional, and did a great job. We called to have our chimney viewed and cleaned to make sure our fireplace and chimney would be up to par to use without any issues. They were able to verify that we did have some cracks in the chimney and the problems that that could potentially cause if we were to have a fire in our fireplace and the options that we had to remedy this issue. I called Terri and Rick mainly because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp. I hadn’t had our chimney swept in years, and we have frequent wood fires. Rick not only swept the chimney (second story with tall chimney), but also patched cracks and voids in the firebox on the same visit as he had the time (he could have scheduled another appointment, but we would not have been able to have any fires for a while). I really appreciated the work that he did, and considering how hard he worked and the time spent on site, the cost of what he did was extremely reasonable. He is a pro, and his wife Terri coordinated everything perfectly, I now understand the great reviews they get. I won’t be using anyone else.

When we purchased our neglected home, we immediately scheduled to have the chimney assessed and swept per the recommendation from our home inspector. I saw the rave reviews on Swede and immediately gave Terri a call. She is one of those people that just makes you feel comfortable when you’re talking to her. A few weeks ago the cap on our chimney fell to the ground…luckily no one was injured. We found it laying there next to the chimney, and thought the wind blew it off. I did my research on Yelp, and found Rick and Terri’s business, and set an appointment for Rick to come out and reattach it. Before the day came, Terri told me what my options may be (in case ours was not reusable – which it wasn’t), and she called the night before to remind me of our appointment. I like that level of service.
I had them bring a new one to our site, and I am glad I did. Rick explained why the old one was not reusable, and why a new one would service our home better. I asked why the wind blew the old one off since it wasn’t that strong a breeze, and no other ones came down. Rick explained it was most likely the tenting from the termite company by the previous owner – they are known for knocking them off, then just putting them back in place. Arghh.
Enough of my tale of woe…
Rick was great. He was on time (in fact early, as he called ahead and asked if that was okay). He was prepared with the right tools and equipment. He decided to do the work from a ladder, since our roof tiles had just been done (see tale of woe above). He was patient with my questions and observations. He even offered to come in and check our gas fireplace for any potential leakage – which there was none. Whew.

Terri was very quick to respond (within an hour or two) to my initial email contact, which was great. They happened to have an opening the next day, so Rick came over and performed inspection and sweeping of our fireplace/chimney, and found some cracks and gaps in the firebox, which were making the fireplace unsafe to use. Then, after speaking with Terri and looking for next available dates for the firebox repair, it seemed like nothing was open for several weeks. We were ready to go with another company for the repairs, in order to get it done quickly (needed it done before Thanksgiving). But Terri and Rick managed to rearrange their schedule and perform the repair only a couple of days later from the initial inspection. Swede Chimney Sweep—a husband and wife team of Rick and Terri—is genuinely professional, thorough and expert, bar none. From the moment a call is placed for an appointment until the service is completed, everything is handled with class and distinction.
Our condo has a chimney which the Home Owners Association had issued a mass condemnation for a structural matter found in other similar fireplaces within the complex. They conducted a brief look-see at our place, giving my wife and I pause. We chose to get a second, independent opinion instead.
Terri, at the Swede office, was quite familiar with the fireplace brand and wisely advised that 40% of them were known to still be okay. Enter Rick and—voila!—after a full hour of careful inspection, announced all is well with ours.

I have my chimney inspected/swept at least every two years. I always call in the summer since I get off season pricing that way.
I made an appointment with Swede Chimney Sweep this summer. They confirmed my appointment before coming out and then arrived on time the day of the appointment.
The inspection was quick and professional. They checked everything inside and out. It turns out we didn’t need a sweep this year but an inspection of the gas valve revealed a small leak in the wall while the valve is open. Swede provided us contact information for an appropriate gas line plumber. Potential disaster averted.
Swede followed up with a phone call and again a few days later with a post card thanking us for the business. Great customer service experience in my opinion. I’ve already booked my next inspection two years from now.

Family Owned…On Time…Clean…Fair…Honest.
Swede’s was highly recommended to us by the Fireplace Expert who redid our c. 1910 chimneys. We had not had our two chimneys swept in many years and so I was concerned about the build up and possible safety hazards.
From scheduling to the actual chimney cleaning appointment we could not have been more pleased!!
Terri, handles the scheduling and even went out of her way to advise us to wait a few weeks for the “off-season” so that it would be less expensive. It was almost Summer and we aren’t using them so we took her advice.
Terri’s husband Rick is the Technician and very knowledgeable. He evaluated both chimneys, did a gas leak test and advised us that the chimneys were not in need of a cleaning.
So at the end of the day it cost us $89 to have a knowledgeable professional come out, inspect and reassure us that all was well. Money very well spent in my book!
PLEASE BE CAREFUL. There are unscrupulous Chimney Sweeping services. One was recommended to me by my neighbor. They are affiliated with a local fire shop however, interestingly they don’t use their name.
The “gentleman” told me that our chimneys were not lined (despite having been done by the best in the business and a fact Swede disputed), that they were a fire hazard and that he needed to report them etc.
Complete scare tactic and one which I will be Yelp reviewing on their page. He, of course, offered a solution which “would only cost us $1,000 to fix”. I politely asked him to immediately leave our home…something I have never done before.
Be careful people, had I not been very knowledgeable of construction in general, and our Historic Home in particular, I might have fallen for his lies.

I called Terri early in December to have our chimney inspected, and she was able to schedule us quickly. While I wasn’t present during Rick’s visit – my father-in-law was – it turns out that the chimney was just fine, but our natural gas insert was completely wrong. He made a thorough inspection of the fireplace, and then told my father-in-law exactly what we should get to replace the existing system.
And for all of this great service, they charged me… wait for it:
ZERO dollars. Not even a service fee for showing up and looking at the system.

Rick has cleaned our chimney at least five times and is top of the heap when it comes to professionalism. His wife Terri manages the appointments and each year sends a reminder for your chimney sweeping. If you schedule early, a substantial discount is offered. We use our fireplace heavily and rely on Rick to give us a straight up assessment of its condition. There is no oversell. He gets in, gets out and leaves our home as perfect as he found it with a sparkling clean fireplace and chimney and the knowledge that it is safe to use. He even puts up with our three hyper dogs. I am writing this review because Terri gave me $100 worth of information over the phone even when it was clear that she couldn’t help me. Looks like I will need a chimney reline which Swede doesn’t do, but they told me that over the phone instead of coming out and charging the approx $89 inspection fee that most companies charge. They gave me a referral of the person in town that typically works on older house chimneys.
Although I didn’t do business with these guys, I could still tell over the phone that Terri is the type of personality that will bend over backwards to help the customer. When the time comes, I will 100% trust these guys with my chimney work.

I have never had a fireplace before, and after moving into this new home nobody I asked could tell me how to use it. My contractor recommended his fireplace guy who told me to get rid of the gas logs and burn wood, he said the gas was disconnected. It didn’t feel like he knew what he was talking about so I called Swede chimney sweep for an inspection.
I loved how Terri was super efficient in scheduling and she really knows her stuff. Rick, her husband (he is the one who did the inspection) was so knowledgeable about the fireplace, he knew how everything worked, checked that the chimney was in a good condition, turned on the gas and presto in 10 mins the fireplace was up and running! Before he left, Rick gave me the do’s and don’ts of using the fireplace, how to keep it safe and working for a long time.

Terri and Rick Pocock having been providing chimney cleaning services to us for the past several years and I would never, ever call anyone else. We use our pre-fab fireplace often during the winter months so it needs cleaning and sometimes, a lot of sympathy. Rick is a consummate pro at getting our fireplace in working order. We’ve used Swede Chimney Sweep a couple times and they are exactly the kind of vendor you always want to support – responsive, honest, polite, helpful. Making appointments is easy – a friendly person actually answers the phone! The day before your appointment you get a reminder call (nice touch). And the actual service/inspection is carried out in an efficient, transparent fashion.
On the last visit, it’d been several years since our last cleaning and we were confident we’d need another. Rick performed the inspection and told us quickly all was well. He could have easily taken us at our word and just performed a cleaning, netting a quick profit. Instead he was totally honest and pointed out there was little need for a cleaning. In the 20+ years since I moved to the west coast from the east coast, I have never interacted with such a top notch professional as Terri. She stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Over the past few months, I have spoken with Terri twice about two matters — fireplace maintenance and dryer vent cleaning.
They don’t make professionals like Terri anymore. She is highly knowledgeable (fact-smart), communicates to one’s natural level of understanding (people-smart), well spoken, warm and friendly. She loves her job and it shows. She was a great help to me in defining my problems and determining my solutions.

We’ve trusted our chimney sweeping to Swede Chimney Sweep since the late 90’s. They recently came to our house to check things out for this season. Terri & Rick sure do make a great team! When I first called into Swede Chimney Sweep, I spoke with Terri who assured me that our story of our wood-burning fireplace woe was not an unfamiliar one. I scheduled an appointment for the near future and unfortunately, was forced to reschedule due to an unforeseen trip out of town. When I called, Terri was understanding and rescheduled me on the spot.
On the rescheduled date, Rick called a few minutes ahead of arrival as requested. He was extremely kind and efficient and left behind a sparkling clean fireplace and a promise of a supplemental report within a week.
The report arrived by mail within three business days. It contained detailed descriptions, color photos and all the necessary information I could need regarding his recommendations to make sure our firebox and chimney are up to snuff.
If your fireplace is looking a bit neglected, I highly recommend giving them a call!

Terri just blew me away with a major dose of goodwill and good information. I’d contacted Swedesweep because I’d received contradictory info from two other chimney professionals about the work that was or wasn’t needed on the fireplace in my older home.
I thought it would be worth paying for an evaluation visit from Swedesweep just to get an objective opinion before making a major purchasing decision. However, for no charge, Terri told me everything that I needed to know. Rick is awesome. They were able to fit us in due to a cancellation.
It was raining today (on and off), but fortunately Rick was still able to do the work. Our chimney was dirty and we have a sloped roof….
In brief, he is a gentleman and as professional as it gets. He carefully draped the floors and our WHITE carpets and cleaned the chimney. When he was done, there was not one drop of water or scuff on the floor or carpets! It’s uncanny…. He gave us the inspection report which includes some cracks in the backwall and side of the firebox. We’re looking forward to having him help us fix that in the near future.

They called to state they were running a few minutes (15) behind schedule which was no problem for me. I usually expect most service people to come late but they actually called to let me know.
Rick inspected my firebox and let me know a few bricks were loose. He instructed us not to have a fire as we might have a serious issue. He gave us the name of someone he has worked with and recommends.
He was extremely neat and clean. When he left there was no trace of ashes anywhere in the house.

Rick Pocock, owner of Swede Chimney Sweep and Dryer Vent Cleaning, came to the house and thoroughly cleaned out 27 years of built up lint from the dryer vent system. He also evaluated both of our fireplaces and chimneys and suggested options to repair small issues.
Rick Pocock and Swede Chimney Sweep & Dryer Vent Cleaning are great. Rick spent 90 minutes cleaning out our dryer vent system that exits on the roof. Sure enough, it had 27 years of built up lint (about the size of a volleyball) which is now gone. Rick was professional, personable and went out of his way to tell me what he was doing and why. He also looked at both of our fireplaces and chimneys and suggested minor work (to be done by others). Great value.

I can’t say enough good things about Swede’s Chimney Sweep. I called them last week to clean out my dryer vent, because the blockage had caused a leak in my neighbor’s ceiling, so Swede came out and investigated it. I had no idea where my vent came out and Swede was there for over an hour trying to figure it out. He was up on the roof and and on his hands and knees looking at the various vents in my building. Turns out he couldn’t do the cleaning, since my dryer vent was abnormally long (read: out of code) and he didn’t have the equipment long enough to reach the end, but he didn’t give up until he figured it out. When I set up the appointment they said they would also do a free fireplace inspection. So after we realized he couldn’t clean the vent he came upstairs and inspected the chimney and told me a few things I didn’t know about when using the gas fireplace. He also gave me recommendations for companies that had equipment long enough to clean the vent, and someone to reroute the vent line if I wanted to change it. I feel like you just do get quality people like this anymore. So if you want an honest serviceman, Swede is your man.

My husband and i are doing inspections for a home purchase and this 1922 house has a chimney with some issues. We searched around yelp and angie’s list and called Swede Chimney because of the good reviews. There was a home inspection and the inspector said the chimney was unusable and a safety hazard so we needed a second opinion so to speak. So this was a call to schedule an inspection.
I told Terri on the phone about the inspection report and she matter of factly told me that if the issues were what she suspected, Swede Chimney would not be able to do that work as that was out of their scope.
So why the review? Because of what happened next. She then continued to explain that she was going give us the name of a great chimney mason, and explain to us what was going on with our chimney, of course based on the description we gave her. She took time and effort to thoroughly explain things, answered a bunch of questions and provide the reference. She didn’t have to do any of that – especially at 6:30 pm on a Friday night and at no compensation to her.
I’m a COO for a hospitality company and if all my staff were as helpful, patient and professional as her, I’d be thrilled! Great customer service is always a terrific indicator of what the quality of the company is and if we someday need a chimney sweep, Swede Chimney is who we are going to call.

We wanted someone to come out and inspect, sweep, free up a frozen damper lever, and place a rain/cinder cap on the chimney of our 50 year old home.
Swede was most responsive to our call. Terri got all the pertinent information from us in order to better prepare her hubby, Rick’s, work. She knows that business. She explained in detail our situation, possible out come, and solutions. She had several options with which to quote fees, but of course they would be contingent upon Rick’s evaluation and what services he had to perform.
I returned home from work to the great news that not only was Rick able to free up the damper, but that our fireplace and chimney were in good shape for their age considering the lack of a cap on the chimney to protect against water infiltration. He also had a lot of information and tips which he imparted to my hubby.
Best of all, I couldn’t tell from the fireplace and hearth being so well cleaned up, that anything had been done !
The fee for freeing the damper, sweeping the chimney and cost of cap and placement came in under our guesstimate of $500.00.
Swede is our fireplace, chimney service for life, and we will cheerfully recommend them to family and friends.

The experience couldn’t have been pleasanter. Rick showed up as scheduled and inspected the chimney. He then pointed out some cracks that needed fixing. We have some wood facing on our fireplace and Rick pointed out that this was a fire hazard since the wood was too close to the fireplace opening. The chimney didn’t need sweeping since we only have fires a few times a year.
Since the job would take over two hours, we scheduled a time a week later to do the work. He fixed the cracks and painted the interior of the fireplace black. He installed the smoke guard and the gas fireplace log lighter, something we had talked about getting for some time. Everything was done quickly and properly and looks wonderful.

We got a stainless steel chimney cap and had our gas fireplace changed to a gas log starter. We made the appointment in the middle of a record cold snap so we were not the only ones wanting them to come out. Our appointment was sooner then we expected so we didn’t have to wait long to get what we wanted. The chimney looks so much better with the black cap. Great service too! We have a 3 year old who kept following him around watching.
When he came down from the roof he gave our son a red piece of felt he “found” near the chimney from Santa. It was weeks after Christmas so he was very excited about a part of Santa’s suit being caught on our chimney.

I called Swede Chimney Sweep for a chimney inspection and cleaning based on their Angie’s list rating and service area. I have lived in my 56 year old home for 33 years and expected some repair and cleaning was needed. The scheduler was very helpful with making the appointment. She provided an estimate, extensive education on fireplace maintenance and the risks of house fire from chimney deterioration. She called two days before the appointment for a reminder.
Rick, the owner, arrived on time. He inspected the firebox for cracks and gaps then inspected the chimney crown and cap and flue tile, finding cracks and some deterioration, as expected. He warned the noise would be considerable (it was very tolerable) and proceeded to set up his equipment, using protective cloths on my wood floors. When finished Rick left the area clean, no evidence of ash was found in the area.
Rick recommended the firebox repair for safety, the chimney flue and brick repair is cosmetic and not seen from our covered patio. He also recommended a chimney cap, giving me two choices. His last recommendation was the frequency of cleaning when burning wood (pine/oak) or fireplace logs.

My wife and I just bought a new house and there were a bunch of things in the inspection report that needed to be addressed with the fireplace. I found Swede Chimney Sweep on yelp and figured I give them an email to get some quotes. This was right around the Christmas holiday and I was pleased to receive and almost immediate response. I sent over the inspection report and Terri got me on the schedule.
Well – this part is completely my bad, but they were super nice about it. When I scheduled the appointment, Terri reminded me not to use the fireplace 24 hour before they came out. They called me 2 days before to remind me…and of course, a couple of glasses of wine later, the wife and I forgot and lit a fire anyway. Rick arrived and I confessed what we had done. He was totally cool about it and said, let’s just tackle what we can and then we’ll come back out later. As such, he got my gas starter working and installed a chimney cap. We’re on the books to do the sweeping and some other repairs that are needed with our 50 year old chimney.
Long story short – they are great to work with and we’ll use them again!

Terri and Rick are a terrific husband and wife team. Terri is the coordinator and Rick does the on-site work. Both are extremely professional, punctual and thorough. They have kept their company to just the two of them so they can control customer satisfaction.
When we called to make an appointment, Terri answered right away and was very nice to deal with. The only available appointment was over a month out, and we took it. However, Terri called us a couple weeks later to say they had a cancellation later that week, so we jumped on it.
Rick came out and did a terrific job cleaning and inspecting our chimney. He said we should get a chimney cap to keep out critters, so we had him install one right then. We bought a house that has a fireplace, but the previous owners didn’t have any information about the condition of it. At the very least we knew it was dirty. We called Swede and they scheduled us for an appointment about six weeks in the future, due to the high volume of work they have during the cooler months of the year. I was delighted when they said they would put us on a call-back list in case they had a cancellation sooner. Sure enough, only a couple of weeks later, we got a call that they had a cancellation and could come over the next day.
When Rick came over, he inspected the fireplace and explained that it was quite dirty and should be cleaned. He also pointed out a couple of places inside the fireplace that concerned him a little bit, structurally. He suggested that we contact a chimney mason to take a look at it, as it was beyond his area of expertise. Rick was polite and courteous and explained what the cleaning process would entail. I was amazed that he was able to clean the chimney while keeping the living room clean. I would recommend Swede to anyone who needs a good chimney sweep!

Rick inspected and swept the chimney in our condo. I prepared the area, as instructed in the email correspondences prior to the appointment, and he performed the inspection and sweep quickly and efficiently. He was in and out of our home within an hour, as our chimney was in pretty good condition.
Setting up the appointment was easy with quick responses from Terri, and I was given multiple appointment options to choose from. I felt like I was well prepared for the appointment through the information that Terri sent me about the inspection/cleaning process. Rick was very professional, polite, and didn’t mind that my house guest and I enjoyed our coffee and continued our conversation over the loud vacuums that he warned us about.
It has been at least seven years since the chimney was looked at by a professional, and Rick left us with the peace of mind that our fireplace is safe, clean, and functional.
This past summer, my husband and I were in escrow for the purchase of a home with an old, poorly maintained fireplace. The home inspector found some issues with the chimney, and suggested that we have a professional look at it. When I called Swede Chimney Sweep to discuss our situation and inquire about having the chimney inspected, it became clear that the level of repair needed was more than what their services covered. Terri not only took the time to explain my options, but also referred me to someone who could give us a thorough inspection with a repair estimate. In the end, we walked away from the purchase, and I believe that Terri helped us avoid what could have been a bad situation. Provided chimney inspection services on a rental we were buying. After closing escrow, they swept the chimney. The chimney was in dire need of sweeping, not sure when or if it had ever been done before. Installed and re-started gas logs (had been capped off by previous owner) and all the equipment that goes with that. Cleaned dryer vents and prepared dryer space for the dryer which was due to be installed the following week.

They were very accommodating to our very fluid schedule–we were trying to get the chimney swept in between closing escrow and having the new tenants move in, but the close date was never pinned down until about two days before we closed! They were very good about keeping in touch about the appointment and working around my other contractors, including roofer.
They keep things very neat and offered suggestions to help us make the decision about how to best make use of the fireplace (gas logs, or wood burning?).

First, I spoke with Terry on the telephone described the problem (damper stuck open) and she gave me options. The quote was approximately $450 to put a new damper at the top of the chimney along with a chimney cap, and take off the old fireplace screen. Rick came out and after some elbow grease was able to get the existing damper working just fine. He also applied fire resistant caulking to some cracks in the back of the fireplace and took off the old fireplace screen.
Because of Rick’s work with the damper, he saved me a few hundred dollars. Nice. Both Terry and Rick were very professional, nice, easy to work with and I felt had my best interests in mind. I’ll definitely use them in the future.

We have a fireplace on the ground floor of our home. I contacted Swede for quote over the phone, plus a description of our fireplace. The representative, Terri, knew immediately how to provide services for our fireplace by the description I gave over the phone. From the information I provided, Terri knew we had a firebox type fireplace, rather than a fireplace with specialized firebricks. Terri also asked about our heating and cooling. Through her advice, by lighting the firebox, with a certain type of fire wood, and size, lighting the fireplace with the heating system on could bring a draft into our home if we did not properly prepare the fireplace. Plus, guarding against closing the fireplace an hour before bedtime could allow smoke from the fireplace to travel upstairs, or produce carbon monoxide. She asked us if we lite the fire, close the fire off at least an hour before going to bed for safety. We took her advice and planning to contact Swede this year to prepare for the winter.

We recently purchased a condo, and wanted to make sure that the fireplace was OK to use and had no major issues, so we called Swede Chimney Sweep & Dryer Vent Cleaning. Rick showed up on time and went right to work. He inspected our fireplace and chimney and informed us that our chimney cap was a bit bent, and that the damper had some rust issues and was stuck in the open position, but that things were otherwise fine. He showed us a picture of the bent cap and explained that it could cause problems with water leakage and that it may have led to the rusted damper, and that we should talk to our HOA about having this repaired. He also took the time to answer all of our questions about the issues, as well as additional questions regarding what kind of fire logs we should be using in our fireplace, and how many times we could use the fireplace before cleaning is necessary. Rick is friendly, polite, professional, and he seems to know what he’s doing, so we would not hesitate to recommend him for your fireplace/chimney needs.

We had no idea that a dryer vent could cause so much trouble! After moving in to our new home, we discovered that the dryer took forever to dry the clothes. I would recommend them very highly. They are very dependable and very nice. I really felt like they provided an excellent service. It’s a two-man company. The guy did an excellent job. He was here for a good amount of time to do the work. I felt very confident about them and they had done it very well. They were very prompt on their arriving. The construction in my neighborhood made it a little difficult to get to the house because the roads were closed. He called me and let me know that he was going to be 10 minutes late. They were very conscientious and good about cleaning up. When the guy was putting in the gas log, he was here on December 13th and was doing the job. When he opened up the gas logs, he discovered that one of the logs was damaged, which he had ordered from another company. He said he would quickly get a replacement for this and made an appointment with me on Saturday to get the job done with a new log. I was very pleased with their professionalism. After I ask some questions and showed Rick things I was concerned with, he brought in his equipment and went right to work. He did a thorough job, cleaned the fireplace and swept the chimney. Rick listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. He went above and beyond what I expected. I had a chimney top that had been removed from the chimney before I moved into the house; it was missing some wing nuts. He put the missing nuts on and installed the chimney top without charging me anything extra. Rick told me my fireplace is missing an ash dump plate, he told me where I could purchase one and also told me alternate ways to cover the hole which would be inexpensive. I was also advised on where I could buy firewood and what woods are the best to burn. My chimney’s ash clean-out door is rusted and fallen off so I have been covering the hold with blocks. I removed the blocks to show Rick and ask him about the door. Before leaving, Rick put the blocks back to cover the hole; I didn’t expect that. I was really impressed with all the little things he did that he didn’t have to do. I usually find I have to clean up after someone has been doing work in my house but not with Rick, he didn’t leave any sign of ash or dirt. I was extremely pleased with Swede Chimney Sweep!

I called to have my gas log system removed, and return my fireplace to a regular wood burning fireplace again. Terri returned my call that same night. She was extremely knowledgeable about fireplaces. After asking me a few questions, she told me the pros/cons of gas log vs natural log systems to make sure I had enough info to make my decision. I decided to go ahead and revert to natural wood fireplace, so we set up the appt to 1) remove the gas log system; 2) install a gas log lighter pipe to help start the wood logs; 3) inspect my chimney (hadn’t been inspected/swept for years) and clean if needed. Terri gave me a quote, with the appt a few weeks away (this is their busy season). A few days later, she called to say they had a cancellation and if I was available the next day. So Rick came out the next day. He was very professional and courteous, explaining what he was doing. He did clean my chimney. He was meticulous about keeping my carpets covered as he worked. He did an excellent job. He did recommend some masonry repairs and showed me where the cracks were, saying that he could do it at a later time, or I could have someone else come in to do it. My final bill came in a little under the original estimate, because I was able to accommodate an earlier appt than planned.

Our dryer has one very looong plastic tube that shoots all the air from the dryer straight outside and the tube itself was stuffed full of lint and water…water? WTH?
The dryer started taking longer and longer to dry the clothes and I fell more and more behind on doing laundry until I asked my husband to find someone. We live in East County, off of Harbinson Canyon Road and although we had to take an appt about a week away from when my husband called, the gentleman came promptly as promised and didn’t complain about the distance.
My husband spoke to the wife first who gave him plenty of tips on how to keep our dryer safe and in good working condition. Very chatty and friendly, first star*
The owner than came out and in short order fixed our dryer quickly and efficiently, was very friendly and professional. Second * We paid $149 for a two hr event and now everything works perfectly! Third * (Def cheaper than a new dryer righ? :o)
Since my husband doesn’t really know how to do laundry, I had to do a load when I came home to make sure the dryer was back up to speed and a big old load of towels was dried in about 30 minutes…my dryer was just like NEW!!!
I do not give five stars for anything lightly, I just don’t believe that I’m doing anyone a service but slapping a five star rating on something just because I can but when my husband, the original “Negative Nancy” carries on about how happy he was that he found someone this professional, honest, friendly and on the ball, well it’s a no brainer that they’re gonna get the rave review.

I called this company to come inspect the safety of the fireplace in our 1920’s craftsman home before we use it. The house is built of old, dry wood so I didn’t want to take any chances using our fireplace. Any leaks in it and our love nest would turn into a death trap. (knocks on wood, no pun intended). The lady who answered my call (the owner) was honest and full of valuable information. She told me how, over the phone, to tell if my chimney was safe. Between talking with her on the phone and her info-packed web site I found out, disappointingly, that our fireplace was definitely unsafe. She told us how to check that our chimney has a modern metal liner before sending a sweep out to clean it (I guess you can’t clean an old chimney unless it has a liner..). Ms. Pocock provided much help and information on the initial phone contact. She scheduled an appointment for Mr. Pocock in the following week. He arrived promptly as scheduled, and made a thorough inspection of the firebox while describing the service limitations of this kind of fireplace. At the end of the inspection he pronounced the fireplace to be fit for service and then proceeded to do a thorough cleaning of both it and the stack above it. He was especially careful to protect the surrounding room area against dislodged dirt and dust, even though I advised him that the room was going to undergo complete renovation shortly. Finally he went to the roof and inspected the top end of the stack, again pronouncing everything in good order. He also provided much useful information about recommended accessories for this kind of fireplace, and about the best kinds of wood to burn. He indicated that we would receive a post card reminder from Swede Sweep for another inspection/cleaning in about two years but probably wouldn’t require service at that time. This was my first experience with a professional, certified chimney sweep and it went very well, even though he did not arrive in the customary top hat!

Prior to having a new fireplace mantel and hearth installed in my condo, I decided to have my prefab fireplace/chimney cleaned to avoid have the new installation get dirty. I called and spoke with Terri on Monday and was able to schedule a Wednesday morning appointment. Terri was flexible with my schedule as I may have had to move the appointment to Thursday after work and she held an appointment to accommodate me if necessary. Terri called me as I requested once Rick was on his way on Wednesday morning. He was on time and very professional. He inspected the chimney from inside and then took a look at the chimney cap on the roof of my building. One thing to note is that he cannot do a prefabricated chimney that is three stories tall for insurance reasons, which he explained and is understandable. I did have soot in my chimney and Rick performed the cleaning. It took about an hour and ten minutes from the time he arrived to the time he left. Everything was covered and left clean. No dust in the room either during cleaning. I would definitely use this company again and recommend to my neighbors. Their price for off-season cleaning was less than the winter months. Both Rick and Terri are very knowledgeable and professional.

The owner of the company came to my home as scheduled, examined the chimney from the fireplace and from the roof, gave me a verbal evaluation (no cleaning necessary), pointed out a small crack in the fireplace floor, and noted that the gas extension was the type used for a ceramic log fixture, which I do not have. We discussed types of firewood/Duraflame to use, impact on environment and on chimney, and he helped me decide how to proceed. He was very polite, thorough, and helpful. The person on the phone (his wife) was also very helpful when I initially called, and gave me a reminder call the day before the visit. They both made sure I understood the issues with Duraflame logs for safety reasons. I will be sent a reminder card in two years, which is when he estimated the chimney would need actual cleaning. We do not light many fires in our fireplace, but we have never had the chimney swept in the 9 years we have lived in our current house. After a recent remodel, the room sometimes smells a little smokey when we use the fireplace. Rick was on time for the appointment and began with an inspection. He could tell that we had recently been burning Duralight logs; he is very thorough! He showed me how the chimney flue takes a bend, and the upper outflow is small. This can impair smoke flow. He made some suggestions like pre-heating the fireplace with newspaper before lighting a wood fire, and burning pine to increase the heat so that smoke goes upwards faster. He also suggested a gas fireplace energy insert, which looks like real wood and generates heat, but not smoke. Of course this would mean no further work for him on the chimney, but it was very professional that he offered many choices to solve our smoke problem. Highly recommended, very honest and extremely professional.

Rick could have continued with the entire sweep for $139 (an off-season price), but instead, he was honest and told us that it probably wouldn’t be worth our while to do it right then because of the flue lining cracks. I was impressed with the company. Terri was friendly and informative when I called to ask questions about getting my dryer vent cleaned. Rick was polite, punctual and helpful, willing to answer any of my questions before starting work. After I gave him a quick explanation of the situation, he got right to work. He was very thorough, and even managed to keep the lint to a minimum (dryer lint can really get everywhere!). Before we had Rick service our dryer vent, clothes took hours to dry and really heated up the entire condo; now it’s like having a brand new dryer, and I can run the dryer mid-day and not even notice! Since Rick is a chimney sweep, he used brushes to clean the vent from the dryer all the way to the roof, not just a vacuum or pressurized air, and I wasn’t at all worried about having him on my roof.
